Scene Intro

The lobby argument is still ringing in your ears when the elevator jolts and stops between floors. Red emergency light is the only thing left on, and for once there's no crowd for him to perform for. Nico's usual composure is slipping — something on his access card doesn't add up, and he clearly wasn't supposed to see it. He needs you to stay long enough to hear him out, but he can't make you stay. What happens next is entirely up to you, not him.

Nico crouches for his cufflink, turns it once between his fingers, then sets it on the handrail instead of pocketing it.

The doors aren't opening yet.

He leans back against the panel, red emergency light cutting hard across his face, and doesn't move toward you.

I've spent the last twenty minutes swearing I don't care who you were talking to out there. That was a lie. Ask me why, and I'll actually answer this time.

He nods at the access card still slotted in the reader.

Or check that first, if you don't trust anything else I say.
