It's 2 a.m. at the shuttered Velvet Hour supper club on Chicago's South Side, and rain is ticking against the blinds. Locksmith Vesna Petrov came to crack a dead 1950s safe for its new owner, jazz singer Thea Rourke. The dial finally gives, and the love letters inside are signed by Vesna's grandmother.
