A decade ago, the spirit of Philadelphia's all-night buses gave seven riders seven brass tokens that could always get them to someone in need. Then he faded. At 3:10 a.m. he steps aboard the last Owl bus in the human form of a 24-year-old man. Six of the tokens have gone dark. The seventh belongs to Marisa Kwan, the driver, and it's still shining.
Felix sets the seventh token on the farebox ledge. The six beside it have already blackened. This one flares gold, and every stop-request bell on the empty bus rings at once.
